The International 6 Main Event Day 1

MVP Phoenix pulled off the biggest upset in The International 6 so far after they stunned heavy favorites Team OG 2-1 in the Upper Bracket Round 1 at KeyArena in Seattle.

Forev’s Axe and QO’s Phantom Assassin proved to be too lethal a combination as the pair produced 27 kills and 22 assists with no deaths to boot when they led MVP Phoenix to a 31-minute victory over OG in the deciding third game of the match.

With Ogre Magi, Invoker and Shadow Demon as support, MVP Phoenix finished Game 3 with 36 kills against only six deaths. Axe led the kills with 17, followed by Phantom Assassin with 10.

Following their win, the South Korean MVP Phoenix will reach the Upper Bracket Round 2 and will face Wings Gaming, who defeated Digital Chaos in the other Upper Bracket match in Round 1.

OG and DC got knocked down to the Lower Bracket.

LOWER BRACKET

In Lower Bracket Round 1, TNC Gaming dominated Vici Gaming Reborn in their one-game knockout series behind the performance of Raven’s Terrorblade, who reached godlike status with 11 kills and five assists against only one death.

LGD Gaming almost squandered late game map control against the upset-conscious Team Secret but with LGD’s Mirana, Ember Spirit and Juggernaut maxed out they found enough firepower to end the match in 70 minutes.

Fnatic seem to be starting to get in form as they dispatched Escape Gaming in just 26 minutes behind a balanced roster of Phantom Lancer, Shadow Shaman, Templar Assassin, Bounty Hunter and Tidehunter.

Day 1 of the Main Event saw a very fitting end as the latch match saw Team Liquid knockout Natus Vincere out of TI 6.

Navi’s Queen of Pain and Faceless Void got them early kills but once Liquid’s Axe got enough gold for a Blink Dagger and Naga Siren earned sufficient funds for a Radiance the tide turned to Liquid’s favor and even Navi knew the match was lost at that point.

WHAT’S NEXT

OG, who surprisingly got sent to the Lower Bracket, will face TNC Gaming in a best-of-three match in round 2. Digital Chaos will play LGD in a similar format.

Fnatic and Liquid are waiting for the losers of the Upper Bracket Round 1 match between EHOME and Alliance, and Evil Geniuses and NewBee, respectively.
