Wargaming Hosts Southeast Asia Media Event
To close off 2015 Wargaming hosted a post-launch reception for their newest title World of Warships (WoW) on December 17 in Manila, Philippines. The event was attended by several local eSports personalities, including Joebert Yu from the Philippine eSports Association and Benson Te of Mineski among others.
The event included a presentation by Wargaming in which they announced that they are collaborating with the producers of the naval-themed sci-fi anime “ARPEGGIO OF BLUE STEEL -ARS NOVA-“, in order to create unique in-game content with them.
They also mentioned that they will be releasing more content for the Asian region both in and out of the game, whether it is in the form of clan tournaments or in the form of new features for warships in-game. In fact, they also said that in comparison to other servers, Asia has received a lot of things which made the title grow rapidly in the Southeast Asian region.
Following the presentation, the Wargaming representatives played the game in order to show off the new features to the media, as well as to show how the physics and the mechanics of the game worked. The attendees were generally impressed with the game, as evidenced by their cheers and shouts throughout the duration of the session.
Finally, there was a question-and-answer section in which the Community Manager for Wargaming Asia fielded questions from the people in the room. First up they were asked whether there was a chance that WoW would turn into a respectable eSports title, similar to World of Tanks. The answer was as follows:
“Of course, we want to make it a good one, but of course, since we have just released World of Warships, we wanted to make sure that the game worked as it should.”
Another point raised in the Q&A section was that “night battles” and “weather effects” were still down the pipeline, mainly because they did not want to “introduce extremely strong (read: overpowered) in-game elements that are out of the player’s control.” Instead, they plan to include “coastal batteries” that would “retain the game’s realism” while at the same time “adding to the tactical and strategic depth of the game.”
As for tournaments and promotions on part of the company, the company representatives assured us that they will continue to intensify their efforts in the upcoming year.
Launched on September 17, 2015 for Windows, World of Warships serves as a sequel to World of Tanks and World of Warplanes. It allows players to play as one of four classes: aircraft carriers, which can strike from afar; battleships, which serve as the front-liners of the fleet; cruisers, which can fulfil any role needed and destroyers, which are quick runners of any naval formation that wishes to survive in the high seas.
