The Shanghai Major in Numbers: Infographic
2016 was the year that SEA made their mark at The Shanghai Major with two SEA teams finishing in the Top 8. The South Korean team MVP Phonenix surprised almost everyone with their stellar performance in the group stage, eventually finishing 4th in the tournament, while Dafabet sponsored Fnatic finished in the 5-6th spot.
The Chinese teams had a bad time at the event with none of them appearing in the top 8 of the final standings. The disappointing result led to EHOME’s manager stating that “The Shanghai Major was a very embarrassing tournament for Chinese people”.
However, James “2GD” took embarrassing to a whole new level by getting fired whilst still on air for his bad language, crude jokes and generally being an “ass”. No doubt Gabe Newell who had to witness the cringe worthy behavior by the host and do the sacking felt the embarrassment more than most.
